The Mayibuye Precinct has many of the characteristics of a successful tourism precinct, such as the clustering of several tourist attractions, offering several tourism services and activities, giving tourists several reasons for visiting.<\/p>\n<p>It also allows for tourists and residents to interact with the host community. There are a variety of land uses and forms of ownership with public access. The Mayibuye Precinct is in Greater No 2, which is rich in history. Greater No 2 was established soon after the De Beers Mine opened in 1886, one of the first townships in Kimberley.<\/p>\n<h6>Some of the main attractions in Mayibuye Precinct include:<\/h6>\n<ul>\n<li>Mayibuye Uprising Memorial, in remembrance of the innocent victims who lost their lives during the Mayibuye Uprising.<\/li>\n<li>Robert Sobukwe\u2019s office, where he practised law.<\/li>\n<li>Aids Memorial, in honour of all those who lost their lives to Aids.<\/li>\n<li>Beer Hall, site where the Mayibuye Uprising started.<\/li>\n<li>Abantu Batho Hall, where Sol Plaatje gave his last public lecture in 1932.<\/li>\n<li>First barber shop in Galeshewe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Project description<\/h4>\n<p>The project will entail the following elements:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Redevelopment of Mayibuye Square as a major tourist magnet for Galeshewe.<\/li>\n<li>Restoration of Robert Sobukwe\u2019s office to preserve and exhibit the life and the role he played in the liberation struggle.<\/li>\n<li>Development of the Entrance Arch to activate the precinct, giving it a sense of place.<\/li>\n<li>Development of the Heroes Garden as a place of honour, reflection and especially remembrance of the fallen heroes and heroines of Galeshewe.<\/li>\n<li>Public library and resource centre, incorporating modern technology and resources.<\/li>\n<li>Arts and craft centre \u2013 workshop facilities that will enable local artists to create their crafts.<\/li>\n<li>Parking area \u2013 safe and secure parking facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Targeted sectors:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Infrastructure<\/li>\n<li>Real Estate<\/li>\n<li>Construction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Project finance:<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Equity Partners<\/li>\n<li>Property Developers<\/li>\n<li>Investors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Investors are needed to finance the project, while government will ensure provision of enabling infrastructure and various incentives as part of the project support.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h5>Partnerships;<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Northern Cape Department of Public Works<\/li>\n<li>Northern Cape Department of Economic Development and Tourism<\/li>\n<li>Northern Cape Economic Development Agency<\/li>\n<li>Sol Plaatje Municipality<\/li>\n<li>Private Sector<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Contact \/ Enquiries<\/h4>\n<p>Potential investors interested in this project are encouraged to contact the project team below.
